All about Chemical Peels and why you need one.

If you search for chemical peels on social media you see a flurry of posts with people having excessive peeling, shedding, and flaking. Some people even post about their horror story of a chemical peel - burns, scarring, dark spots that they developed after-the-fact. And these images can be scary and definitely a deterrent for most.

But those stories give chemical peels a bad name. They can actually be extremely beneficially to our skin’s overall health and vitality, helping to achieve smoother, plumper, clearer, more radiant skin.

And not all peels will leave you with a drastic down time. Yes, some peels will cause you to peel off multiple layers of skin but these peels are medical grade and should ONLY be done by your doctor or dermatologist. The peels we offer are considered superficial, affecting only the topmost layers of skin - leaving you little to no downtime. But that doesn’t mean they are any less effective. In fact, they can be just as beneficial to your skin as one of those deeper grade medical peels.

Chemical peels work by applying a chemical solution to your skin, causing trauma to those outer most layers of skin, eventually causing them to peel off revealing healthier, smoother skin. Different chemicals determine the depth of the peel and the skin condition that is treated.

Everyone can benefit from a chemical peel. Whether you have specific skin conditions you’d like to improve or you just want a refresh.

It’s best to avoid as much sunlight as possible when getting a peel done so for those here in the Northeast, fall and winter are the ideal times, especially if you’re getting a peel series done. But if you’re conscious about sun exposure and avoiding it whenever possible, they can still be done during the sunnier months.
